One of the most beautiful places in India is the ancient city of Hampi.  Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka , India. It is located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. It continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the old city. The ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

As i was going through my photos the other day,I decided that words just couldn’t do justice to this spectacular city. A photo story would let you see just how spectacular it is.

The city of Hampi is surrounded by incredible ruins and breath taking scenery. What makes Hampi unique is that while it is a world heritage site and the ruins are impressive, the people of the land live, breathe and work among its walls.  It feels as though you have stepped back in time and are actually living as people lived hundreds of years ago.  The Bazaar is bustling, the square is filled with energy and people worship at the temple.  Hampi is a must for anyone visiting India.

Vittala Temple Complex : This is perhaps the most famous and well-known among the ruins of Hampi. The iconic stone chariot in the vicinity of this temple complex is a symbol of Karnataka Tourism. Off late, floodlights have been installed in the temple complex that provide illumination at dusk, thereby adding to the grandeur of the architecture.

We got up at 5AM to catch the sunrise from  Mathanga hill. we trekked for 45mins to reach the top.

To our luck we reached just in time to witness the best ever Sunrise in my life history. It was splendid.

Virupaksha Temple known as the Pampapathi temple, it is a ancient temple situated in the Hampi Bazaar.The temple has a 160-foot (49 m) high tower at its entrance.

Got lucky with this beautiful Bird called the Bee Eater.

To top it up we visited the Tungabhadra Dam , around 20 kms from Hampi. After 30 min trek , we got glimpse of a beautiful sunset.
