Fight Me!!!

During a recent visit to Ano Neuvo state park here in California, I had the chance to observe elephant seals from close quarters. Males can get quite aggressive during the active breeding season where they challenge each other for a fight to establish the alpha status. Here you can see one of them roaring (for the lack of a better word to describe a sound similar to a motorbike starting up 🙂 ) to call a fight. An interesting thing to note is that males during the breeding season dont eat anything for about 3 months.. they stay on shore, sleep (and snore!) and fight.

Pebble beach

I wish I could show you the pebbles in this shot 🙂 But the reason I framed it this way was to highlight the serene water and pleasing twilight colors.

Location: Pebble beach, @ Split rock state park, Silver bay, MN.

This is a 115 second exposure with a moist lens and a wet tripod as bonus 🙂
