During a recent visit to Ano Neuvo state park here in California, I had the chance to observe elephant seals from close quarters. Males can get quite aggressive during the active breeding season where they challenge each other for a fight to establish the alpha status. Here you can see one of them roaring (for the lack of a better word to describe a sound similar to a motorbike starting up 🙂 ) to call a fight. An interesting thing to note is that males during the breeding season dont eat anything for about 3 months.. they stay on shore, sleep (and snore!) and fight.
This is the “Daddy Deer” which was missed out in the post “Do not Disturb“. Looks mean and pissed off! My god those antlers look sharp! I am glad he didn’t gut me with them 😛
